Herrington on the Bay has been in the wedding business for more than 25 years. As one of Maryland’s premier waterfront wedding venues, we attract couples from all over the east coast, to celebrate one of life’s most special events. Winter weddings have been getting more and more popular, but Spring, Summer, and Fall still dominate the wedding season. We’re looking forward to hosting our 2019 couple’s and keeping an eye out for some of the hottest wedding trends.
One of the main reasons couples choose Herrington on the Bay as their wedding venue is for the scenery. But more and more, they’re finding unique ways to incorporate more natural beauty into their ceremony and reception.
Greenery has been a popular option for archways and garland but we’re happy to see more couples incorporating greenery into their wedding florals and tablescapes. Edibles, like lettuce, cabbage, and even artichoke are making their way into bouquets and boutonnières in a big way. We hope this fringe trend makes an even stronger presence in 2019.
Sunday is an overlooked option for a wedding day. In 2018, we saw a rise in the number of couples choosing a Sunday wedding and we predict we’ll see even more in 2019 and 2020.
One of the big benefits to a Sunday wedding is the price. Venue fees are generally lower on Sundays — and because there isn’t a huge demand like there is on Saturday, you’re more likely to book the date you want.
Sunday offers a lot of flexibility for couples too. You can incorporate more festivities into the weekend, building up to the grande finale — the full ceremony, on Sunday.
Specialty drinks are a staple in most weddings at Herrington on the Bay. But for 2019, we are predicting more creativity at the wedding bar. An onsite mixologist or an interactive bar station during the cocktail hour can really take the festivities up a notch.
Food is one of the most important aspects of a wedding reception. At Herrington on the Bay, we take pride in our custom menus. More and more, couples are asking for smaller plates and added courses to give their guests a lot of options to enjoy.
One of our favorite things is to incorporate family recipes into the menu. We also help couples plan for dietary needs with gluten-free and vegan options. DIY food stations are still popular and offer a great way for guests to customize their dining experience.
Hemp is a huge trend that’s only just beginning. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized industrial hemp, making way for a new American-grown industry. In coming years, we’ll see hemp making its way into everything from fashion to food. And where there’s fashion and food, there are also weddings.
Anna Chaney, owner of Herrington on the Bay, is a proponent of industrialized hemp and leader in Maryland’s ‘budding’ hemp industry. “We are fully committed to sustainability at Herrington on the Bay,” said Anna. “Hemp is on the forefront of sustainability. It’s a fully renewable resource with so much possibility.”
Hemp won’t get you high, but it will raise the bar on a traditional wedding. Whether it’s hemp wedding dresses, hemp in floral arrangements or hemp seed salad dressings…we’re excited to see where this trend will go.
We're more than Maryland's best wedding venue.
