In spite of an emotionally, physically, and mentally taxing year, we’ve been inspired by the tenacity and resilience of you and others around the world. We’ve witnessed inspiring acts of kindness from artists who shared their crafts from their balconies, healthcare workers who volunteered their services to save lives, and our essential workers who delivered food, packaged our online shopping orders, and flew our planes. And even though we’re still in the midst of a storm, it’s important to enjoy and recognize those moments of sunshine.
That was our goal this summer, to bring the sunshine here at Herrington on the Bay to a lucky couple who entered our Wedding Giveaway contest. Inspired by “Random Act of Kindness Day”, Herrington on the Bay — along with Crow Entertainment, Molly Humphrey Artistic Imagez, Sweet Sues Bake Shop, Inn at Herrington Harbour, and Flower Follies — organized a giveaway gifted to a couple who demonstrated an example of making the world a better place. Here’s what Anna Chaney, owner of Herrington on the Bay, said about the giveaway:
“Part of our mission is to spread joy — that’s what weddings are all about — this is a way for us to do that and recognize others who are working to make the world a better place… This contest is open to anyone because anyone can make a difference in the world. We’ve had so many wonderful couples celebrate their marriage with us — military men and women, teachers, nurses and doctors, entrepreneurs...In their own way, they’re all making our world a better place…”
Contestants all submitted a 30-second video answering the question, “how are you making the world a better place?” The winning couple then received a complimentary wedding at Herrington on the Bay that included a waterfront wedding ceremony in the Herring Bay Garden, a reception held in the Herrington Yacht Club, full accommodations, a farm-to-table buffet dinner, and an open bar for up to 150 guests.
After reviewing all of our phenomenal submissions, we selected our winners — Drew and John. Here’s an excerpt from their response to our question:
“A few things that we do to make this world a better place [are] just simple acts of kindness like holding a door for someone or giving a compliment. Paying it forward any way we can. And helping people in need.”
Herrington on the Bay, and all of our supporting vendors, hosted a beautiful wedding for this beautiful and inspiring couple. It’s our duty, like Drew and John mentioned, to pay it forward any way we can. Our clients have trusted us to host hundreds of weddings here and without their trust in our services, we couldn’t do what we absolutely love. So, thank you — all of you.
We’re honored that Drew and John trusted us to make their dream wedding possible in a space that we cherish and hope that they will cherish for the rest of their lives. Weddings are special. They are sacred. And Herrington on the Bay is all about making lasting memories for those sacred and special occasions.
We want to say a special thank you to all of the vendors who offered their services to us and to this couple for free. You all demonstrated what this was about — unmitigated kindness in a moment when we needed it most.
"I have to say that Herrington on the bay made our wedding better than anything we could have ever imagined ! The staff was amazing. We will forever love this place and the people.
