Who doesn’t love a love story? Getting to know our couples is essential to planning their weddings. The small details about where they met, how they fell in love, and who popped the question help us determine unique ways of telling their story on their wedding day. 

We asked Marcy & Brett Saunders to tell us their “Real Wedding Love Story” after getting married at Herrington on the Bay this November. Here’s what they had to say:

Marcy & Brett: A Lake Como Proposal Leads to a Stunning Herrington on the Bay Celebration

Marcy and Brett's love story began in the bustling streets of Washington, D.C., in September 2018. After returning from college, a chance pre-game introduction through mutual friends sparked a connection that quickly blossomed. Their shared love for exploring new restaurants, cheering at sporting events, and traveling the globe (eight countries and counting!) solidified their bond. Then, during a romantic trip to Lake Como, Italy, in May 2023, Brett proposed at the historic Villa del Balbianello, setting the stage for their dream wedding.

With a year and a half to plan, Marcy, alongside her mother, took on the role of wedding planner.

"I loved how I got to plan my wedding exactly how I wanted it to be," Marcy shared.

While choosing from the vast array of vendors proved challenging, resources like The Knot, Zola, and WeddingWire, coupled with the helpful staff at Herrington on the Bay, made the process smoother.

On November 9, 2024, Marcy and Brett's vision came to life at Herrington on the Bay. The day began with joyful preparations, as Marcy and her bridesmaids got ready in their suite, while Brett and his groomsmen shared their own pre-ceremony moments. A series of heartfelt first looks—Marcy with her bridesmaids and father, and then with Brett on the dock—created unforgettable memories.

"Seeing each other before the ceremony was so special," Marcy recalled.

The decision to take photos before the ceremony allowed the couple to fully enjoy their cocktail hour and reception. The stunning backdrop of Herrington on the Bay, with its Polynesian Lawn ceremony and Polynesian Ballroom reception, provided the perfect setting.

The reception was a feast for the senses, with guests still raving about the delicious food. "The Macaroni & Mashed Potato Bar was a huge hit!" Marcy exclaimed. The dual plate dinner, featuring crab cake and filet, was equally impressive. The customized dance floor wrap added a touch of elegance, while cold sparklers during the first dance created a magical atmosphere. Round Midnight band kept the dance floor packed, playing all of the couples favorite songs. A dessert table filled with treats and a small cake satisfied every sweet tooth, and guests left with personalized popcorn bags.

To personalize their wedding, Marcy and Brett focused on creating a luxurious and memorable experience. The amazing food, customized dance floor, and cold sparklers were just a few of the elements that made their day unique.

Looking back, Marcy advises future couples, "Don't worry or stress about the small little details. I definitely recommend having a first look with your spouse, bridesmaids, and father."

As they embark on their married life, Marcy and Brett look forward to "creating even more amazing memories together, such as traveling to new places, starting a family, and endless adventures." Their honeymoon in Australia and New Zealand in December 2024 will add two more stamps to their passports.
